You're never too old to have your teeth straightened, but many older teens and adults object to the way traditional braces look. At Prestige Dental Sarasota, we understand how obvious wires can make patients feel sensitive. We are proud to offer Invisalign, a new way to train your teeth straighter without any visible wires or posts. For a wide variety of patients, Invisalign can be the ideal solution for their tooth alignment problems.
Invisalign is a series of clear, virtually invisible aligners that look something like the trays used for teeth-whitening. You'll be supplied with a series of these aligners, and will use each set for about two weeks. During this time, the aligners will gently force your teeth a bit closer to the idea position. Only certain teeth will be moved during each stage, which will be determined by our dentist when he maps out your treatment plan.
While Invisalign could benefit anyone needed tooth alignment, because of the way they're used, it's not right for every patient. You wear the aligners for 20 to 22 hours each day, taking them out to eat and to brush and floss your teeth. Patients need to be responsible enough to keep an elaborate schedule, so these aligners generally aren't good for smaller children.
Adult patients are generally thrilled with the way the aligners look and the way they avoid the traditional wires on the teeth that can look awkward for adults. Older teens and adults who haven't had the benefit of orthodontia in earlier years are ideal candidates for Invisalign treatment.
You'll come into our office for the initial fitting and consultation, during which our doctor, Dr. Peter Rubenstein, will map out a treatment plan for you and give you all the information you'll need for a successful series. On the next visit, you'll receive your first set of aligners. You'll wear your first set for two weeks, removing them to eat, brush, and floss your teeth, but leaving them in otherwise.
Every two weeks, you'll stop wearing your current pair of aligners and move on to the next pair assigned to you. In this way, your teeth are gently moved into position in gentle steps, with certain teeth being affected with each new set. You'll come into our office every four to six weeks, depending on your personal progress, so our doctor can check your progress.
